SAMBA 3 smbspool bug workaround

On recent versions of SAMBA, printing with smbclient works fine, but smbspool keeps saying:

ERROR:  Connection failed with error NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME
Unable to connect to SAMBA host, will retry in 60 seconds...

I found the workaround at http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/long_list.cgi?buglist=104136

Put a username (any username) in the smb:// URL, and everything
starts working.  E.g.

smb://samba_bug_workaround@host/printer

This is annoying and confusing, but given that cups is one of the very few users of smbspool, it seems worth a big fat warning in the documentation.
