Thanks for the info.  I will look at the doc.  I have been compling the updates (did a emerge --deep --update --upgradeonly world) all night.  I have a slow system for my server (Pentium 2 266) and it takes a while.  Hopefully when I return home after work it will be ready to go.  I will post success or failure.
