[cups.bugs] page count is off when printing from samba to cups

When you print via Samba you run usually a printer driver on the
Windows machines.
As this way printer specific data is produced on the Windows
machines and sent to the CUPS system.
As printer specific data can be of random format it cannot be
filtered by the CUPS filtering (in particular not by pstops which
produces page accounting information from PostScript).

Either you use a generic PostScript driver on your Windows machines
so that it is PostScript which is sent to the CUPS system (but
this way some special printer features which provide only the
printer specific Windows drivers may no longer be available)
or you use an accounting software which queries directly the
printer (e.g. via SNMP) or which is capable to count pages
even in PCL data stream if you use a PCL printer.
PyKota is such an accounting solution, see for example
