[cups.development] Minimum requirements for printing via smb ?

Hello,

Can you tell me the minimum requirements for printing via 
smb://server/sharename ? The docs mention to use smbspool, but do I need 
the complete samba suite for it ? Which kernel settings are required ?
I need it for an embedded system and don't want to waste too much space...

Ok, as I write this message I see that it might be better written to a 
samba mailinglist. Well, perhaps someone can help me here, too :)
