string option

It seemes, that it's possible to use "string options" for printers, if you use foomatic. Unfortunatelly I really didn't figure out, how to use them... I didn't find any sample for this. Can someone tell me how I have to modify a ppd file, so that this works? ... or: how can I generate foomatic-ppd files... is there a kind of a ppd-compiler? ... sorry, I'm new to this and I've no time so read all this documentations (I've to write this little driver for school and I'm very late)... so, it would be great, if you could give me some information.
