The RPM database is locked, so you cannot call RPM within an RPM 
operation.  This was my first idea as well.  I have some other ideas to 
try including Johannes' suggestion, which I think is most appropriate.  
But we're way off topic for this list now :-)  Thanks for the suggestion 
though.
