Time is considerably down now (again). I used a rather huge snmp.conf
file which individually listed all of the addresses in the range
10.162.[0-7].[0-255] (I could not probe via broadcast, because I
had to use an SSH connection to connect to a neighboring LAN there).

I did run the snmp backend from the commandline.

  * Before this modification, it took 140 seconds to complete
    (tested twice).
  * After, it was down to 13 seconds (tested 5 times).

The web interface took 19 seconds to display the page with the newly 
found printer list (tested 3 times).

AFAICT, still the same number of printers are returned (43) as 
compared to before the change..
