I'm very sorry, I keep thinking of information you probably need to
help me with this.

I have uncommented "application/octet-stream" in /etc/cups/mime.types
I have uncommented "application/octet-stream       
application/vnd.cups-raw        0       -" in /etc/cups/mime.convs
I also have raw.types and raw.convs with those same lines uncommented.

R340.ppd contains:

*StpDriverName: "escp2-r340"
*StpPPDLocation:       
"/usr/share/cups/model/gutenprint/5.0/C/stp-escp2-r340.5.0.ppd.gz"

My printers.conf file contains:
