It could be useful to allow the remote retrieval of CUPS' version number,
for a third party application to detect and react to some very specific
changes (like the way backend are run between 1.1.x and 1.2.x and higher
for example).

The attached patch (made against trunk), which is completely and entirely
untested, should add support for a CUPS_GET_VERSION IPP operation tag, and
a text string should be returned as part of the IPP response, containing
CUPS version number.

Hoping you'll add this to a future release, and to the 1.2 branch as well
if possible.
