lpoptions -r does not work

I am running OS X (Tiger). If I enter "lpoptions -o foo=bar", then I see it when I enter "lpoptions". However, if I then enter "lpoptions -r foo" or "lpoptions -r foo=bar", I still see it when I enter "lpoptions". This is not a critical bug, since the .lpoptions file can be edited by hand, but it should function properly. Am I using it wrong, or is this a bug?
