If using "AuthType Basic", it slightly works but when using samba,
every job is assigned to the user root - bad for accounting.
You didn't mention which version of Samba you're using.
However, more recent versions let you put
printjob username = %U
(or similar) into smb.conf. Which will put the Windows client's "session
username" into the job submission data for CUPS to use. You can test what
your system uses by issuing
testparm -sv | grep "printjob"
If you get an empty result, your Samba version is too old to know about
the parameter at all.
