Powerpoint and Apple Works

Using Microsoft Powerpoint and Apple Works in Mac OSX 10.5 printing is distorted. Then I found out in the PPD file that it is because of the
resolution. It has 2400x1200 dpi. When I change it lower than 2400, like 1200x1200, it does work perfectly.

(this causes problem)
*Resolution 2400x1200dpi/4800 Color Quality: "1 dict dup /HWResolution [600 600] put setpagedevice
			<< /DeviceRenderingInfo << /Type 105 /ImageEnhancement 1 >> >> setpagedevice
			<< /DeviceRenderingInfo << /Type 105 /ImageEnhancementType 4 >> >> setpagedevice"

(this solves the problem)
*Resolution 1200x1200dpi/4800 Color Quality: "1 dict dup /HWResolution [600 600] put setpagedevice
			<< /DeviceRenderingInfo << /Type 105 /ImageEnhancement 1 >> >> setpagedevice
			<< /DeviceRenderingInfo << /Type 105 /ImageEnhancementType 4 >> >> setpagedevice"

I believe names do not affect other entities, this is only for driver's use? Is this an exemption in Resolution?
Do Powerpoint and Appleworks really get data of the Resolution in the PPD file?
