I also suposed it, but kernel people says that it seems a CUPS problem.
I have this problem only with 2 of my 4 printers:

This one (That works fine if I directly call #echo "Hello world"
> /dev/usb/lp0) :
T: Bus=03 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=01 Cnt=01 Dev#= 6 Spd=12 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=04b8 ProdID=0202 Rev= 1.00
S: Manufacturer=EPSON
S: Product=TM-T88IV
S: SerialNumber=J4HG006757
C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=e0 MxPwr= 2mA
I:* If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=ff Prot=02 Driver=usblp
E: Ad=01(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms
E: Ad=82(I) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms

And this (I can't test it with the above command because it's not a raw
printer):
T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=02 Cnt=01 Dev#= 18 Spd=480 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=10ce ProdID=000e Rev= 0.01
S: Manufacturer=SHINKO
S: Product=CHC-S2145
C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=c0 MxPwr= 0mA
I:* If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=07(print) Sub=01 Prot=02 Driver=usblp
E: Ad=02(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 512 Ivl=0ms
E: Ad=88(I) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 512 Ivl=0ms

The others, runs perfectly with the same kernel and cups configuration, for
example this:
T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=03 Cnt=01 Dev#= 19 Spd=480 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=03f0 ProdID=2b17 Rev= 1.00
S: Manufacturer=Hewlett-Packard
S: Product=HP LaserJet 1020
S: SerialNumber=JL13D4M
C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=c0 MxPwr= 98mA
I:* If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=07(print) Sub=01 Prot=02 Driver=usblp
E: Ad=01(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 512 Ivl=0ms
E: Ad=81(I) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 512 Ivl=0ms

What could I do ?
