[cups.bugs] [CRIT] STR #2689: cups-1.4svn-r7257 prints nothing on Sun Solaris[tm] 11

The system is a Sun X2100 (AMD Opteron) system running
"Sun Solaris Express Developer Edition 9/07 snv_70b X86".

Cups 1.4svn-r7257 was installed via this method:

bzcat cups-1.4svn-r7257-source.tar.bz2 | tar xpf -
cd cups-1.4svn-r7257
../configure --disable-gssapi -with-smfmanifestdir
make
/bin/su -
cd /export/home/toolbox/Download/cups-1.4svn-r7122
make install
/etc/rc3.d/S81cups start


Gutenprint 5.1.4 was installed via this method:

cd gutenprint-5.1.4
add "#include <strings.h>" to "./src/cups/rastertoprinter.c"

Printing appears to be going thru this path:

 lp/firefox/etc... ->
 Cups 1.4 ->
 GhostScript 8.61/Ghostscript Fonts 8.11 (pstoraster) ->
 GutenPrint 5.1.4 (rastertogutenprint5.1) ->
 Epson Stylus CX6400

I have monitored the "Print Test Page" via CUPS report level DEBUG
and have resolved any issues that appear to be hanging CUPS,
GhostScript, and/or GutenPrint.  Full error_log is attached.
After that, I have set CUPS report level to INFO.

I have reduced the resolution to Draft to minimize computation
time.  However, after 20+ minutes, the "lpstat -p ink -o ink" output
still shows:

The only output going to the CUPS error log are the following every 70-71
seconds if I am monioring the servers at
"http://localhost:631/printers/ink":
