Excel crash when try to print document

After installing a printer in Windows XP from samba with the cupsps driver, Excel crashes when trying to print certain documents. Some pdf documents cause the windows spooler to crash as well.
If I change the driver of the printer in the Windows machine, the file prints just fine.
This happens consistently over several windows machines and with several types of documents.
