Error: Tree connect failed (NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED)

Problem: At our college Macs can't print to HP P2014n printers

(1) We are running a mixed environment but the Macs that can't print
are running Darwin, Leopard OSX 10.5.7 and CUPS 1.3.10

(2) How do I get upgrade instructions to CUPS 1.4 on the Mac?

(3) I am a newbie so is their unix command step by step how to do the upgrade somewhere from CUPS 1.3.10 to 1.4 ?

(4) Will the upgrade in (3) fix our Tree connect failed (NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED)

(5) Also print jobs go On Hold Authentication required even as root ???
