Looks like
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=603131#c21
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=603131#c27
and
http://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Printing
"CUPS default 'RIPCache 8m' causes various kind of printout failures"

It seems regardless of "RIPCache" there are still issues
with HPLIP's HPCUPS driver, for some examples see
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=630696
https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/617332
and
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=628225

There could be still a bug in Ghostscript's "cups" device
why it fails for the HPCUPS driver but works with HPIJS
(because the HPIJS driver uses the different Ghostscript
device "ijs") but I cannot reproduce the remaining issues
and I do not have sufficient knowledge regarding Ghostscript
device internals to find the root cause off the top of my head.

Kind Regards
