CUPS and Samba authentication

Hi,
there seems to be a long standing bug in CUPS (at least since 1.4). At the moment I am using CUPS 1.5 on Fedora 16 64 bit. I have configured CUPS to use a Windows printer through Samba. When the option "prompt user if authentication is required" no authentication is shown when the user tries to print (except in Firefox/Thunderbird) and the job is held for authentication. By entering the Windows username and password in the configuration dialog all works fine, but this is not a viable option in configurations in which multiple users share the same set of PCs.
