Child exited status 4

Hello.

I'm using cups on linux since years. On my latest install on a Via Nehemiah machine, I had the following message when I tried to launch cups:

Child exited with status 4

and service did not start.

cups -t shows that my config file is clean.
cupsd gives the above error
rc launch script gives the same error

I have the impression hat it is  not cups who is messing around, but one of the child processes.
