In CUPS 1.5.3 config-scripts/cups-ssl.m4
was changed a bit compared to CUPS 1.5.2

At least on Linux with autoconf version 2.63
this results a syntactically broken configure script
because "bash -n configure" fails with

configure: line <last line number +1>:
 syntax error: unexpected end of file
----------------------------------------------

FYI:
I did not yet analyze it in detail.
For now I simply use cups-ssl.m4 from CUPS 1.5.2
to compile CUPS 1.5.3.
We (i.e. openSUSE) need to run autoconf because we have
a patch that adds support for systemd to CUPS as long as
there is no native systemd support in CUPS, see STR #3917.
Our patch adds in particular config-scripts/cups-systemd.m4
so that we need to re-generate the configure script.
