[STR New]

I have a Canon MP 610 (Printer/Scanner) and it doesn't work with the usblp
module - cups does not recognize my printer. Here is a output of dmesg:

[14400.207120] usb 1-1.2: >new high-speed USB device number 7 using
ehci_hcd
[14400.293768] scsi9 : usb-storage 1-1.2:1.2
[14401.295577] scsi 9:0:0:0: >Direct-Access Canon MP610 series
1040 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2
[14401.299803] sd 9:0:0:0: >[sdc] Attached SCSI removable disk
[14401.404371] usblp 1-1.2:1.1: >usblp3: USB Bidirectional print
[14401.404429] usbcore: registered new interface driver usblp

And here are the permissions for /dev/usb/lp3:

crw-rw---- 1 root lp 180, 3 11. Okt 16:43 /dev/usb/lp3

I use Archlinux with kernel 3.5.6 and cups 1.6.1 and read on the wiki here

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/CUPS

that all printers should work with usblp since cups 1.6 or they should be
reported here otherwise.

I can get cups to recognize my printer by blacklisting the usblp kernel
module - nevertheless the permissions for the device (then without usblp
it is /dev/bus/usb/001/008) are set wrongly by the sane package to

crw-rw-r--+ 1 root scanner 189, 7 11. Okt 16:59 /dev/bus/usb/001/00

and I have to manually change the group to "lp" or create an udev rule
that does the job for me so that cups recognizes my printer.

It would be nice (and simpler) if cups could work directly with usblp and
the printer,
greetings
Mathias
