[STR Unresolved]

Is this a duplicate of STR #4110 "Set Default Options, Broken Pipe"?
The reporter of that one doesn't mention whether they added "Listen
xyz.xyz.de:631" in addition to "Listen /var/run/cups/cups.sock" or
replaced it.

I've been able to confirm that it occurs intermittently with CUPS
1.5.3-5+deb7u1 on Debian 7 ("Wheezy") and a PDF printer (Debian
package: cups-pdf 2.6.1-6) with the attached cupsd.conf. The
attached log includes a couple of minutes during which I toggled the
"Output Resolution" setting between 150dpi and 300dpi until the
"Broken pipe" error appeared.

A colleague reported seeing "Broken pipe" errors when trying to set
printer defaults through the web interface. He searched the web and
found reports that removing the domain socket listener would resolve
it.

Removing the domain socket listener is not a good option for us
because scripts run unattended by a member of the lpadmin group on
localhost would then need to store and send a password.
