Only an addedum FYI before you actually mess up your
CUPS config files with such kind of "workaround" see
"General information on the command-line tools" at
https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:CUPS_in_a_Nutshell

Perhaps it might work for PPDs in /etc/cups/ppds/
but in general use the CUPS command-line tools
that are available for various purposes.
