install cups 1.1.4 source [was: how to update cupsomatic

I tried to install latest cups-1.1.4 as a test on my Suse 8.2
here in my office. First I deinstalled
cups-libs-1.1.18-56, cups-client-1.1.18-56, cups-1.1.18-56,
of course. After ./configure, make, checkinstall I was able to create
printer queues with a browser on 631.
With each job sent to a queue there
appers a c000xx in /var/spool/cups, but the printers shows
no reaction. Why?  BTW: The same error appears on the Samsung ML1440 on 
a remote PC-system, see OP. Some ideas why cups throws the job
a way?

Somebody here who has a step-by-step testing plan?
Sorry, I am no CUPS specialist and I have no time
to read all documentation.
