Cups won't compile on Red Hat AS 2.1

Trying to compile cups on Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1, when I run "make' I'm getting the error;

"gcc: installation problem, cannot exec "cc1plus"; no such file or directory."

I tried both CUPS v1.1.20 and v1.1.21rc1.

I've poked around in GOOGLE on this error, but don't find anything helpful.
