Job size limit Mac OS X

Is there a print file size limit in CUPS?

More specifically, it appears that jobs that spool out files larger than 
about 1.7GB disappear.  This is on a Mac OS 10.3.x where "cups-config 
--version" reports  "1.1.20rc1".  There is about 40GB of free disk space 
on the computer.

This seems very close to the "old fashioned" 2GB file size limit 
inherent in some file systems and/or applications.
