Queue is disabled, paused

Hello,
Frequently a CUPS queue stops on my Debian Sarge box and jobs pile up until the queue is
enabled. I sometimes must cancel the offending job to enable the queue, other times a
simple 'enable' works, and the offending job prints. I haven't found the pattern. In
every case the error_log reports "Unable to send print file to printer: Connection reset
by peer".
The printers are HP LaserJet 2100's. CUPS prints to them via socket://10.56.28.xx:9100. I
have tried "HP LaserJet Series CUPS v1.1" and "HP LaserJet 2100 Foomatic/pxlmono"
configured via the web interface (aside, are these drivers, PPDs, filters, all of the above?).
This topic has come up recently:

Here are error logs with trimmed timestamps to fit email width. I've also included links
to the full debug level output.
