setup issues

I am using a web interface to setup printers for a system that uses CUPS to print.  This is one that we have bought, and I have no access to the command line area.  Maybe the logs, but I'm not positive at the moment.
Anyway, all of the printers that I am connecting to are Windows, so I am using the samba interface.  One of the printers I have set up is a Brother 1470N on an NT server, it works fine.  Another is at my desk, 98SE, Brother 1440, it works fine.  I have 2 that are causing problems right now though.  Both are Brother 1240's, and one is connected to a 98 machine (maybe se, not positive), and the other is a 95 machine in another building, and I need to use the IP address to connect to it.  Both tell me that they are unable to connect to the Samba host, although before I print (or test print in the majority of the cases at the moment) it tells me that it is connected.  Most of the time I get this error message: "Unable to connect to SAMBA host, will retry in 60 seconds...: Success", although I have seen Input/Output error as well.  Both of these printers use a username/password to connect to it, as does the 1470N.  Is there something that usually causes this problem that I am overlooking?  Thanks for any help you can give.
