Hi all I am new at all this and could use some badly needed help.

I had linux setup so that I could print to a windows network printer. But ever since the linux system was setup to authenticate the user against the windows password server at logon the printing and setting up printers has stoped function on linux.... side not if i re image the box to its pre-windows authentication stage then all is well again. but i need the authentications as it currently is...

when i try to print I get the following log files:

/var/log/samba/smbd.log file...

nsswitch/windbindd_group.c:winbindd_getgroups(1032)
user 'root' does not exist

/var/log/cups/error_log file... (Log Level = debug)

it always trys to print as root regardless of who I am logged in as and i think thats the problem

is there a way around this or a better way to configure my samba file i am attaching my smb.conf file as well

/etc/samba/smb.conf

# This is the main Samba configuration file. You should read the
# smb.conf(5) manual page in order to understand the options listed
# here. Samba has a huge number of configurable options (perhaps too
# many!) most of which are not shown in this example

# Any line which starts with a ; (semi-colon) or a # (hash)

# All NetBIOS names must be resolved to IP Addresses
# 'Name Resolve Order' allows the named resolution mechanism to be specified
# the default order is "host lmhosts wins bcast". "host" means use the unix
# system gethostbyname() function call that will use either /etc/hosts OR
# DNS or NIS depending on the settings of /etc/host.config, /etc/nsswitch.conf
# and the /etc/resolv.conf file. "host" therefore is system configuration
# dependant. This parameter is most often of use to prevent DNS lookups
# in order to resolve NetBIOS names to IP Addresses. Use with care!
# The example below excludes use of name resolution for machines that are NOT
# on the local network segment
# - OR - are not deliberately to be known via lmhosts or via WINS.
