Thanks! I'll try it.
> I am posting here to give info on how I got the Xerox Phaser 8400 DP working correctly in our office (slackware 9.1 with custom compiled kde3.2).
> The xerox "unix print center" works well. But let's face it, it looks like crap (the gui).
> KDEprint and CUPS is much better in my opinion.
> The problem I had was that, using the xerox phaser 8400 ppd file downloaded from the website (see previous anonymous postings)....I got errors from cups/kdeprint saying the ppd was not a valid driver/ppd file. The online www.cups.org ppd tester also gave more specific errors.
> I tried editing the ppd file by hand and met with limited success (again see anonymous postings above).
> On a whim I used the file called xr8400dp.ppd from the nt_4 directory on the cdrom that accompanied the printer. I noticed Xerox had seemed to segregate the printers DP-DX-B etc...into different ppd files. This evidently results in something cups can handle.
> Using the nt_4 printer specifically tailored to my phaser8400DP results in a perfectly working printer.
> Note I tried the xerox phaser860 ppd file from the Xerox website as well, but you are unable to change the settings (print quality, duplexing etc) for the printer, it just uses the defaults set by the printer administration website on the printer. (big surprise) BUT the generic ppd for the 860 did work, just know the generic ppd for the 8400 doesn't: YOU NEED TO USE THE PPD SPECIFIC TO YOUR PRINTER FROM THE CDROM!
> Hope this helps someone avoid the frustration i went through!
