Tiny MSOffice files won't print

WinXP boxes (fully updated) print normally to an HP4000 running off Mandrake 9.2 server. The box is runnig samba and cups and not much else.

EXCEPT - any MSOffice file SMALLER than 10-15k just dissappears.

Any clues?
