Will this work with a Canon printer

I have a Canon MP730 multifunction printer. It works real well with Windows, but not worth a crap with Linux. I am using Gentoo and cupsd. I have posted to both sites in the past and have not recieved an answer. Will this configure a ppd file that will work with a Canon or should I consider getting an HP. It appears that Canon does not support Linux. Thanks!
