How to install custom drivers

Is there a prefered method to place new files into the model directory, the filter directory and into the ServerRoot directory?

I mean, when writing an installation script that users will run on computers where cups has been installed with different places for datadir, serverroot, serverbin etc., how can I unsure that the files get placed the right place?
