[cups.general] page-ranges and page-set not working

Hi!

I'm running the Debian Woody packaged CUPS 1.1.14. I have a Kyocera
Mita FS-1010 printer configured which works perfectly otherwise, but
the options page-ranges and page-set seem to have no effect
whatsoever. Each and every single page of the document gets printed.
In contrast number-up does work, so it's not a general problem with
my system. I need a hint as to where to start looking for the cause.
Does the printer need to have specific support for these options or is
the document modified by CUPS internally to remove the pages that are
not wanted?
