HP Laserjet 2200 dn prints on backside

Our HP Laserjet 2200 dn exhibits rather strange behaviour when we try to print to it.
The printer prints on the backside of the paper even when the document we send to it only has one page.

Anyone seen this behaviour before and knows the solution ?

Setup :
Distro : RedHat 9 Kernel 2.4.20-8
HP Laserjet 2200 dn connected to an ethernet-lan.
CUPS version 1.1.17-13 (standard RH9)
used redhat-config-printer to configure the printer
queue type : Jetdirect
printerdriver : ljet4
