[cups.general] Using the pstops filter to shuffle pages?

I noticed there is a pstops filter included in CUPS, which looks
similar to the pstops tool in psutils. Is it possible to give lpr
options such that it invokes pstops with certain options on what it is
about to print (such as "pstops 8:-7,0,1,-6,5,-2,-3,4" to simulate
psbook)?

I would like to use these options with lpoptions to define a printer
instance that shuffles pages in a certain way. Piping through the
normal psutils pstops is possible of course, but it is not as
convenient as having a predefined printer instance that already does
it.
