mozilla printing preferences defaults

This is a follow-up on a posting I originally made to the cups.bugs forum.

I'm running a new installation of Debian/CUPS/Gnome on an i386 system. At first, I failed to install the cupsys-bsd package, and therefore was unable to print from mozilla-browser. After installing cupsys-bsd, I am able to print, but a problem remains: I am unable to save my printer preferences, so I must select the printer each time I print a document. I did not experience this problem with an installation made about six months ago.

When I select FILE -> PRINT, the Mozilla print dialogue box always presents "hp4100nps@:64" as the default. I then must select "PostScript/default" from the pull-down menu. Is this a bug in Mozilla or xprint? or is there a way to set the default---perhaps by editing the system-wide preferences file?

I am able to print from OpenOffice.org-writer,and the CUPS test page prints perfectly.

The printer is a HP LaserJet 4100n (PostScript) with Jet-Direct interface; it was installed with the CUPS web administration interface. The machine has a Pentium processor. The kernel is 2.4.25. CUPS was installed with other packages via TASKSEL, and configured by DEBCONF.
