All,

This is driving me nuts. I've ripped out and reinstalled cups, ghostscript,
pstools, a2ps, and well, half the packages on my FC2 box trying to get cups
to print.

These are the commands being run:

D [10/Jun/2004:19:00:46 -0500] [Job 35] renderer command: gs -q -dBATCH
-dPARANOIDSAFER -dQUIET -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=ijs -sIjsServer=hpijs
-sDeviceManufacturer="HEWLETT-PACKARD" -sDeviceModel="DESKJET 990"
-dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=612 -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=792 -dDuplex=false -r300
-sIjsParams=Quality:Quality=0,Quality:ColorMode=2,Quality:MediaType=0,Quality:PenSet=2,PS:MediaPosition=7
-dIjsUseOutputFD -sOutputFile=- -
D [10/Jun/2004:19:00:46 -0500] [Job 35] foomatic-gswrapper: gs '-dBATCH'
'-dPARANOIDSAFER' '-dQUIET' '-dNOPAUSE' '-sDEVICE=ijs' '-sIjsServer=hpijs'
'-sDeviceManufacturer=HEWLETT-PACKARD' '-sDeviceModel=DESKJET 990'
'-dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=612' '-dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=792' '-dDuplex=false'
'-r300'
'-sIjsParams=Quality:Quality=0,Quality:ColorMode=2,Quality:MediaType=0,Quality:PenSet=2,PS:MediaPosition=7'
'-dIjsUseOutputFD' '-sOutputFile=| cat >&3' '/dev/fd/0' 3>&1 1>&2

Immediately after these, I see:

D [10/Jun/2004:19:00:48 -0500] [Job 35] no psname was provided.

Eventually we get:

D [10/Jun/2004:19:00:50 -0500] [Job 35] While reading gs_btokn.ps:

As you can see, this is a HP 990 CSe on a remote cups server also on FC2
(which prints fine, as do all my other boxes, cups or not). I've diffed
gs_btokn.ps on a box that works vs. this broken one, and nothing. I've
googled for all the errors I'm finding, but have come up dry. I've read
documentation, but nothing really addressed (that I've found) the
interaction between the .tok files and the printing process. I think I've
figured a bit of it out, but what's really frustrating is that the commands
are identical between a working system and this non-working one. This leads
me to believe something is borked, but I can' figure out what.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Direct replies are also
welcome. I'm about two days from just reinstalling and hoping, but feel
that's not really the way to fix a linux box.

Thanks,
Rob
