cups + samba + server drivers = slower printing

I've tried this twice now, but when I use the drivers (either cups or adobe) from the server, the print jobs print 1 page at a time.
20 page document would print much slower because it would spool up 1 page at a time.  This is with a HP LaserJet 4050.
I would like to get the server side drivers working, but the slow printing is preventing me from being able to.
Is there something I'm overlooking?
