[cups.general] cups on fedora core 1

hi every one,

i am a newby to cups and its configuration. i lately got a lexmark z705
printer and cannot get it work under fedora core 1. have downloaded the
dev files from lexmark, have tried to read around but so far got nothing
working. using the web interface for cups is of no help as i cannot even
get root accepted as administrator. can anybody point me where i can get
thorough help or howtos, certainly detailed, to get cups and hopefully
my printer running?
