[cups.general] only hieroglyphics with MacOS X

Well, on a PC i could open the xls file (not xml) and the text was
visible.
But the font used is Verdana, so I suspect the client software does not
include
this font into the PostScript stream.

As I haven't put my fingers into Mac OS X until now, I probably can't
give more
help.
