Problem with HP5500

I am running CUPS on a Solaris system and trying to print to an HP5500 on a Win98 system using Samba. When I try to print the test page I see the document spooled on the Windows system, and then I get an error from Windows that

"There was an error writing to USB001 for the priner (hp officejet 5500 series;). The was a problem printing to the printer due to an unknown system error".

I checked the cups error_log and there is something strange about locale,
D [15/Nov/2004:21:25:53 +0500] [Job 14] perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
D [15/Nov/2004:21:25:53 +0500] [Job 14] perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:

And eventually I get
D [15/Nov/2004:21:25:56 +0500] SendError() 2 code=304
which looked like the PC returned an error to CUPS (??).

CUPS
VERSION="1.1.18"

SAMBA
Version 2.2.8a

I can provide complete log files and any other details needed, but I figured I would ask if there was something simple I missed first.
Thanks
