I am afraid, I don't have any contact to Canon.
I don't know which Canon models use which default resolution.
Perhaps it may depend what a Windows driver may have set before?

What I did in the old SuSE printer database was simply to offer all
reasonable Ghostscript drivers with all possible resolutions
for a particular Ghostscript driver. The default was more or less
a blind guess. It was up to the user to find out what works.

For bjc600 360 and 720 work but Ghostscript fails with a
"rangecheck in .putdeviceprops" error for 300 and 600.
For bjc800 360, 720, 300 and 600 all work.

The BJC-2000 may need bjc800 at 600 dpi but this would be in
contradiction to
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Canon-BJC-2000
"Output from the BJC-600 driver is reported to be fairly good."
which indicates that the BJC-2000 may need bjc600 and 720 dpi
but 720 dpi is not available in BJC-2000-bjc600.ppd

720 dpi is available in the following Foomatic PPDs
for Canon BJC-* printers using the driver bjc600:

BJC-210-bjc600.ppd
BJC-3000-bjc600.ppd
BJC-610-bjc600.ppd
BJC-620-bjc600.ppd

720 dpi is available in the following Foomatic PPDs
for Canon BJC-* printers using the driver gimp-print:

BJC-2100-gimp-print.ppd
BJC-3000-gimp-print.ppd
BJC-4000-gimp-print.ppd
BJC-4300-gimp-print.ppd
BJC-6000-gimp-print.ppd
BJC-6100-gimp-print.ppd
BJC-6200-gimp-print.ppd
BJC-6500-gimp-print.ppd

600 dpi is available in the following Foomatic PPDs
for Canon BJC-* printers using the driver bjc800:

BJC-7000-bjc800.ppd
BJC-7004-bjc800.ppd
BJC-7100-bjc800.ppd

600 dpi is available in the following Foomatic PPDs
for Canon BJC-* printers using the driver gimp-print:

BJC-7000-gimp-print.ppd
BJC-7100-gimp-print.ppd
BJC-8200-gimp-print.ppd

Therefore the user with the BJC-2000 must try out the above PPDs
and test which work at all and which one works best.
