Whenever you encounter proglems with foomatic-rip, set the
foomatic-rip's own
logging (e.g. set "$debug = 1;" in the script itself or "debug: 1" in
foomatic's config file (usually /etc/foomatic/filter.conf). Then it
should
write a file
	/tmp/foomatic-rip.log
which contains all the debug messages, and a file
	/tmp/foomatic-rip.ps
which contains the PostScript stuff that goes into the renderer.

Both seem to be essential for diagnosting seemingly weird behaviour.
