"Raw" means "really raw" - i.e. no filtering or any other kind
of data changes. If you need any kind of data conversion you

Regarding CUPS in general you may have a look at

In particular: Keep "filter" and "backend" strictly seperated.
A filter does data conversion.
A backend only forwards data to the destination (the printer).
