Sorry for the premature send...

Anyone have any thoughts about what I have/haven't done to make this 
work?

The filter model I'm using employs:

1) a sentry filter ... that validates the file and logs/ignores *or* 
transfers the input stream (to stdout);

2) pdftops (if filter #1 passes PDF content through)

3) a main "postscript only" processing filter that eats approved 
%!PS-Adobe... streams generated by #1 or pdftops.
