[cups.general] strange problem with CUPS

Hi there,
since a few days, probably after a system upgrade, I can't manage
to have jobs be accepted by my HP Laserjet 2100, connected
through socket://printer:9100
I use CUPS 1.1.20final+rc from Debian
It seems that almost all print jobs are bogus
Then I've tried to print CUPS' test page, which prints OK.
then if I print to a PS file from a Windows box which
I think uses the CUPS driver for W2K (which worked fine a few days
ago), and I send the file to the printer using netcat,
here's the output :
nordine:~$ nc imprime 9100 <../rachel/admi.ps
%%[ Error: syntaxerror; OffendingCommand: bin obj seq, type=128, elements=96, size=16576, non-zero unused field ]%%
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
nordine:~$
NB : this file displays correctly in gv
Which is what happens : printer's led flashes for a while, then
stops flashing and is idle again, but doesn't print anything.
The same thing happens if I print from Mozilla under Linux for
example, so I believe the problem is probably in CUPS.
If I print to a file from Mozilla, then the resulting PS file shows
garbage wherever there should be text, but some text prints OK
I then suspect a problem with fonts, but what could be the problem
exactly I don't know.
also if I print a palin text file with a2ps, it prints just fine.
Any idea ?
TIA
