Options ignored when printing dvips output

I've got a queue set up to a Xerox 6250 colour laser printer which generally works well. The cups server is version 1.1.20 on Redhat Linux 7.3. I'm printing with cups 1.1.20 from Fedora Core 2.

I can select paper / transparency, and duplex on /off etc by passing eg -omedia=blah or -oduplex=none. This works when printing plain text files and many postscript documents.

However, when printing postscript files generated by dvips, (dvips(k) 5.92b), I can no longer select the paper tray or the duplex mode. It seems like all the options I pass to the job are ignored.

I'd be grateful for any hints or pointers on how to track down and fix this problem.
