I know that the small (but kick-ass) Scribus Team are also
longing for getting an 8.x based Ghostscript as a standard
on Linux distros. Scribus is already getting close to Quark
Express and Adobe InDesign on many aspects as a Desktop 
Publishing app, and is even superior on some already.

Their newest Scribus versions have a kick-ass quality PDF
generating engine (doing even PDF/X3 with color separation
and littlecms-based color management). Unfortunately, one
can't print these currently with CUPS/ESP-GS.

To install and maintain 2 Ghostscript versions in parallel
is a pain in the butt.

I'll try and ask them if they can muster some man power too
to bring this about...
