Trouble configuring Dell M5200 - .ps files don't print

I'm a CUPS newbie, having just installed it on Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.4.26-1-686-smp. The cupsys version is '1.1.20final+rc'. I'm trying to configure a Dell M5200 laser printer connected directly to our internal ethernet. I've walked through the Add Printer wizard, and I've tried various Devices; currently I'm set up for "Internet Printing Protocol (http)":

  Device URI: http://192.168.3.205:631/ipp/
  Make: Raw
  Model: Raw Queue (en)

The "Print Test Page" button successfully prints the test page. But any Postscript file I send to the printer, including printing directly from Mozilla or printing a .ps file written by Mozilla's "Print to File" option results in the same symptom: the printer starts whining and rollers turn for about 10 seconds, then it just stops without producing any output. No error message appears on the LCD display. No log messages appear in the /var/log/messages nor in /var/log/cups/error_log. However, the /var/log/cups/access_log does show some HTTP errors:

localhost - - [13/Sep/2004:12:23:58 -0700] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 137
localhost - - [13/Sep/2004:12:23:58 -0700] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 137
localhost - - [13/Sep/2004:12:23:58 -0700] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 77
localhost - - [13/Sep/2004:12:23:58 -0700] "POST /printers/DellM5200 HTTP/1.1" 200 196512

Does anyone have any idea how I can proceed in debugging this further, or any experience in printing with CUPS to a Dell M5200?

Thanks,
Dave Jacobs
